Short Answer
If a family member was alive and supposed to inherit, but never received their inheritance, the family members who took that money must distribute it to the heirs of that family member. For example, Muhammad died and his father, Ali, should have received $1,000, but he never received that money. One year later, Ali also died. The $1,000 should be distributed to the heirs of Ali according to Islamic law, even if many years have passed.
