Short Answer

Giving blood or plasma is a charitable act since it usually goes to those who need it for medical reasons. You cannot sell blood or plasma because it is not a commodity that can be owned or sold. In the case of a genuine medical need, you can buy blood or plasma if there is no other option available, but still cannot sell it. You can accept a gift for giving blood, if you had no intent or expectation to get that gift.

Reason for Asking the Question

It is common to give or receive blood for medical purposes so the questioner wants to know whether it can be bought or sold as well.

What the Prophet Said

Al-Bukhari: Abu Juhayfah bought a cupper (as a servant) and ordered that his equipment be broken. He was asked about that and he said: The Messenger of Allah forbade the price of blood. What the Scholars Said

Ibn al-Mundhir and ash-Shawkani said there was consensus among the scholars on the prohibition of selling blood.
